At the end of the 1950s, after completing the prestigious Milanese headquarter for the German company Bayer, Gho' designs the offices building for a new Italian chemical-pharmaceutical company. It was the first of a series of appointments that the Milanese architect will carry out for Poli Chimica, which include a tertiary building in Milan in via Valla and a large production site in Quinto de' Stampi, a borough of the city of Rozzano. The partnership with companies will play an important role for Gho'`s professional activity: in addition to reveal his particular inclination to consider Architecture as an answer to specific technical and constructive requirements, he confirms his remarkable skills in forging long partnerships and with clients based on reciprocal trust and a solid professional
attitude.
The Poli Chimica industrial site in Quinto de Stampi consists of two different lots of land: the South-West area towards via Volturno, which includes the production plant built in 1969 and modified in various moments throughout the following decade, and the large land between viale Isonzo, via Po, and via Volturno, which includes five blocks built in the 1970s. The last of the buildings, placed north and parallel to viale Isonzo, dates back to 1980 and it is modified a few years later.
The first buildings are characterised by the usual style, based on the alternation between the exposed reinforced concrete structure and the brickwork, already experimented in the buildings for Legnano and Kodak in Cinisello Balsamo. The long building in the North distinguishes itself for the prefabricated construction system, based on a 7.2 x 9.1 m grid with reinforced concrete pillars and stiffened slabs. The staircase and lift cores are located on the short sides and step out of the facade line along the main fronts to allow greater freedom in the organisation of the layout. From a formal point of view, the building is characterised by a curtain-wall cladding at the top floor, where the offices are located.
